The Reenchantment Cafe

Reenchantment is about re-engaging with the fascination, wonder, and delight, the magic and mystery, the effervescent spark of aliveness at the heart of all that is.

The Reenchantment Café is the space where I will share lots of things that (re)enchant me: creative writing and the creative process (I’m a writer), books that have enthralled me, personal magical experiences, and to kick off, my take on the English language.

The Stuff English Does project - the first room of The Reenchantment Cafe to open its doors - is the result of many many years of stopping and noticing my own language, seeing patterns, joining dots and shaking my head in wonder.

English is a never-ending source of fascination and wonder (as are all languages), a dynamic, generative, ongoing process of co-creation by its speakers. And yet we take it for granted.

From asskickery and avocado hand to zumbathons and zenning out … boohoo barriers and fatbergs, moos and dougalists, techno tots, humblebrags, moronic acid… but more than a left-brainy collection of words, the Stuff English Does project is a deep dive into the living, breathing language of every day.

If you’d love to dive along with me into the playful and magical Stuff English Does, please subscribe (it’s free!) to get each new article delivered straight to your inbox.
